The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for our area beginning 5:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9 until 3:00AM Wednesday morning. Heavy rain and winds (30-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph) are expected throughout the evening and into the early morning hours.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Avoid or limit non-essential travel and remain home if possible;
- Secure loose outdoor items (i.e. furniture, toys, flags, etc.);
- Charge phones, emergency lights, portable radios;
- Stay away from downed trees and wires;
Residents along the Wednesday trash and recycle route are encouraged to bring in their materials so that they do not blow away in the high winds. Please place back out for collection before 7AM Wednesday morning.
POWER OUTAGES
Residents that experience a power outage should call PECO at 1-800-841-4141. Do not assume that a neighbor has already reported the outage. PECO prioritizes residential restoration efforts based upon the number of outages in a neighborhood. Please refrain from calling the Township to ask for the status of power restoration as we do not have access to that information.
Severe weather resources are available through the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety. The department also provides checklists for before, during and after severe storms roll through our region.
CLOSURES AND CANCELLATIONS
Due to the severe weather predicted for our area, all recreation programs scheduled for Tuesday, January 9th will be cancelled. The Free Library of Springfield Township will close at 7PM Tuesday evening.
