The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued an Air Quality Action Day for Wednesday, June 28th and Thursday, June 29th, 2023. This alert covers Springfield Township, along with other areas of Pennsylvania and Montgomery County.
Concentrations of smoke from ongoing wildfires in eastern Canada will continue to increase in the area throughout the day with the highest concentrations in the afternoon hours. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is currently projected for Thursday June 29.
This means that air pollution concentrations are unhealthy for the general population and outdoor activity should be limited. Residents should consider wearing an N95 or KN95 mask outdoors to reduce your exposure to pollutants. . The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said hazy skies, reduced visibility and the odor of burning wood are likely, and that the smoke could linger for a few days.
