Nostigma

No Stigma/No Shame Day

The Springfield Township Opioid Action Committee (STOAC), supported by the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners, has established April 20th as No Stigma/No Shame Day. This day aims to foster creative ways our community can contribute to reduce the stigma and shame surrounding substance use disorder and mental health conditions.

Many people are affected either directly or indirectly by substance use disorder and other mental health crises. Addiction knows no boundaries, which is why it is imperative to raise awareness and support those who are impacted by the disease. Less stigma around substance use disorder creates a better understanding, more support, and more lives saved.

Upcoming STOAC Events

  • STOAC will be hosting a Town Hall: Navigating the Maze of Substance Use and Mental Health at the Township Administration Building on April 11th, from 6:15PM - 8:30PM.  This program will address the co-occurrence of mental health challenges and substance use disorders. People addicted to drugs are roughly twice as likely to suffer from mood and anxiety disorders, with the reverse also true. The Town Hall will explore paths to recovery from co-occurring disorders, which can include integrated approaches and ongoing care.
  • The Springfield Police Department and STOAC will be hosting Drug Take Back Day on April 27th from 10am - 2pm at the Springfield Police Station. For more information on this event, visit the designated news article here
