The Township would like to share some reminders to all residents during the busy snow season. The following are our winter weather guidelines and practices:
Trash & Recycle Collection
During a snow storm, trash and recycle collection can be subject to change depending on the conditions. Generally, all trash and recycle collection updates will be posted on the Township website depending on storm conditions.
Leaf and yard waste collection is suspended during the months of January and February. A special collection week will occur in February if snow and ice are not present. Dates for the beginning and end of leaf waste collection, as well as special collections will always be posted to the Township website. Holiday tree collection, which occurs the first few weeks of January, will be suspended during a snow storm. If you have a tree at the curb, please pull it back during a storm so that it does not freeze due to snow and ice.
Township and Library Delays/Closures
The Township Administration and Library will always display delay or closure announcements on the Township website. For Library announcements, visit this page here.
Parking Restrictions
During a winter weather advisory or snow emergency, please remove all vehicles from streets and roadways. Residents with access to a garage, driveway, or any other form of off-street parking are to utilize them to reduce the number of vehicles on the streets. Those who do NOT have access to off-street parking are allowed to park on-street, but only on the odd-numbered side of the street (odd side during an odd year, even side during an even year). Where parking restrictions are permanently in effect, such restrictions shall prevail.
If you are aware of a neighbor who does not have off-street parking available to them, please consider offering space in your driveway if possible so that streets can be cleared of ice and snow as completely and efficiently as possible. Whenever snow falls to a depth of three inches or more in the Township of Springfield, or if the City of Philadelphia declares a Highway Snow Emergency, all parking along the streets and highways of the Township is prohibited.
Snow Shoveling Guidelines
All sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice by the abutting property owner within 24 hours after snow has stopped falling (See Ordinance Code: Chapter 92-21).
It shall be unlawful to throw and/or shovel snow into or upon any roads and streets within the Township from adjoining property with the intent of allowing such snow to remain on such roads and streets (See Ordinance Code: Chapter 92-24). In layman's terms; don't put snow in the street. Please also remove on-street/curb-line basketball nets. Basketball nets should never be placed in the roadway, and should be stored away from the curb line.
