In addition to violating the social distancing directive issued by Governor Wolf, trail users have been found to be disregarding parking regulations, blocking driveways, and leaving trash behind. While we understand the appeal of utilizing our local trail systems as a means to deal with the quarantine and enjoy nature, we must all understand that packing the trails and being in close proximity to others contributes to the spread of COVID-19.

If overcrowding on the trails continues, local, county, and state officials will have no choice but to close the trails to the public. Health and safety must come first during these difficult days.

As such, the Township asks our residents to help prevent overcrowding on the trails (in order to keep them open) and to respect adjacent neighborhoods and property owners by complying with posted parking regulations, leaving a 3 foot buffer on each side of a private driveway, and removing all trash. The STPD will be stepping up patrols in the neighborhoods and ticketing motorists who disregard parking regulations.

Let’s keep the trails open together by also following these helpful tips:

  • Try going to a trail alone or in pairs (don’t forget to wear a face mask)
  • If you arrive at a trail entrance and find that the parking lot is full, consider coming back at another time, head home, or try a different trail.
  • Try visiting the trails during less crowded times (1 - 4pm are the most crowded times).
  • If you do find a trail that isn’t crowded, please remember to maintain six feet between you and other trail users.
