As winter weather nears, the Township would like to request that residents trim back all trees, bushes and shrubs along the edge of the road to provide a clear and unobstructed path along the roadway and/or sidewalk areas.
Proper clearance helps to ensure the safety and welfare to the traveling public and prevents damages to Township vehicles or equipment used to maintain the streets. It is also required that property owners maintain their trees or vegetation that has grown beyond the edge of the roadway, as stated in Township Ordinance #114-136 & 92-15.
Clearing obstructions specifically aid in:
- sight distance at intersections,
- visibility of signs (street signs, stop signs, speed limit signs, no parking signage, etc.), and
- avoiding interference with street cleaning or winter maintenance operations (snow plowing).
Roadside obstructions include but are not limited to:
- Sports nets – While no basketball, soccer, or hockey net structure should be placed in the municipal right of way, the Public Works Department requests that all nets located within the roadway or overhanging the curb line be relocated in order to facilitate winter maintenance operations and to perform street cleaning activities. The structures do not allow maintenance vehicles to maneuver close to the curb when located in the street or overhanging the roadway.
- Mailboxes – Check that your mailbox and post are in good repair and that they are behind the curb, not leaning out over the street.
- Overhanging vegetation – Please check your property to ensure that any overhanging items that may cause danger to traffic on a street by obscuring the view are removed.

Residents who are in violation of this ordinance will receive a notice from the Township. Please contact the Traffic Safety or Public Works Departments for more information at 215-836-7600.
