Springfield Township has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY starting at 10:00 PM on January 28, 2022.
Residents are requested to move all vehicles from the street, or in accordance to the guidelines below if off-street parking is unavailable, before they retire for the evening. Unless absolutely necessary, residents should also avoid traveling Friday night and Saturday due to dangerous winter road conditions unless absolutely necessary. If travel is unavoidable, please remember to slow down and leave an appropriate distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of yours.
Individuals and their snow removal providers should wait to shovel snow as high winds this evening and through most of tomorrow are expected to negate the effectiveness of shoveling until winds subside. Please also be aware of the following updates and guidelines:
Library Closed on Sat, Jan. 29, 2022.
Due to the forecasted winter weather conditions and anticipated snow totals, the Free Library of Springfield Township will be CLOSED on Saturday, January 29, 2022. The library is expected to reopen on Sunday, January 30.
Park & Recreation Programs Cancelled on Sat, Jan. 29, 2022.
All Springfield Township Parks and Recreation programs scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2022 have been cancelled and the Recreation Center located at 1200 Willow Grove Avenue will be closed due to the forecasted winter weather conditions. The Recreation Center is expected to reopen on Sunday, January 30, 2022.
Parking Restrictions
- Parking any vehicles on roadways during a snow emergency is PROHIBITED. Residents with access to a garage, driveway, or any other form of off-street parking are required to locate vehicles from the roadway in order to facilitate plow operations. Those who do NOT have access to off-street parking are permitted to park on the even numbered side of the street only in a year ending in an even number, and on the odd side of the street in a year ending in an odd number. In 2022, residents without off street parking facilities are permitted to park on the even numbered side of the street. Where parking restrictions are permanently in effect, such restrictions shall prevail. If you are aware of a neighbor who does not have off-street parking available to them, please consider offering space in your driveway if possible so that streets can be cleared of ice and snow as completely and efficiently as possible.
Don't Put Snow in the Street
- Blowing or shoveling snow into the public roadway is PROHIBITED. Blowing or shoveling snow back into the road creates hazards and icing conditions and presents a risk to motorists, pedestrians and our Public Works crews.
- Remove on-street/curb-line basketball nets. Basketball nets must be removed from the roadway and stored away from the curb line so that plow operations may commence.
- HELPFUL TIP: Leave space to avoid being plowed in. Shoveling out a space just before your driveway allows the snow that builds up on the plow to fall off in that space and not in your driveway! Alternatively, please do not shovel the last 3-4 feet of space at the end of your driveway until your street has been cleared in order to avoid being plowed in.
Please note: the Public Works Department cannot plow resident's drive-ways as they are considered private property.
About our Snow Removal Process
Public Works crews will salt and/or plow every public road within Springfield Township as needed beginning with the most frequently traveled roadways, followed by secondary roads. Neighborhood streets are the last to be plowed. Please be advised that it may take up to 8 hours once snow has stopped falling to complete all plow routes, depending on the amount of snow that has fallen, wind speed, and temperature. If your street has not been plowed, please refrain from clearing the last 3-4 feet of your driveway as it will be plowed in once the plows make their final pass along the curb line.
Springfield Township has these measures in place to ensure efficient snow maintenance operations. Please be patient as our crews do their best to clear the roads under difficult conditions in order to ensure the safety and welfare of the general public. Your cooperation with the aforementioned guidelines above are greatly appreciated!
