Deter Unwanted Pests from Your Property
There are many different ways residents can help cut down on pests and other forms of unwanted wildlife from creeping into their yards:
- Store garbage in metal or heavy plastic containers with tight-fitting lids and replace if the container has holes and/or cracks;
- Avoid feeding any sort of animals, including birds, ducks, feral cats, squirrels, deer, or any other form of wildlife. The food can attract unwanted pests to your yard;
- Remove potential nesting sites, including leaf piles and deep mulch;
- Repair dilapidated fencing or structures;
- Remove food and water sources in and near your house;
- If residents compost, please avoid using food scraps as they can attract unwanted animals;
- Remove any pet food bowls that are normally left outside;
- Maintain your yard and make sure vegetation is not overgrown; pests love making a home out of overgrown yards!
Homeowners should contact a professional pest control operator to access and treat their property if unwanted pests have taken up residence. Residents should contact the Township for property maintenance issues, vacant properties, and/or concerns regarding public/general areas in the township.
Businesses in Springfield Township are also encouraged to follow the guidance above and follow proper sanitation methods to cut down on unwanted critters, such as rodents, in Springfield Township.
