Planting a tree to recognize those who positively influence our lives or in memory of the people we love, is a centuries old tradition. The Springfield Township Shade Tree Commission is pleased to announce the recent revitalization of the Township's Tree Donation program! The Commission is proud to offer residents the opportunity to create these living tributes as birthday/anniversary gifts, memorials, or just as a simple donation to provide a little shade in our community. Every donation helps the Commission in its mission to preserve and strengthen our local tree canopy.
How Can I Donate?
Residents interested in making a tree donation can fill out the Tree Donation Program form linked below and mail the form and corresponding payment to the Township Building to the attention of the Shade Tree Commission. Payment covers the purchase and delivery of tree, planting, staking, maintenance, and the installation of customizable plaque (for an added cost). Dedication requests may be made at any time of year but planting time (in the spring and/or fall) will be determined by the Township based upon the best time to plant the particular species chosen as determined by our tree provider.
Donors may choose any Township park with planting availability. Planting availability will be determined annually. Tree species can be selected from an approved list. Exact size will depend on the type of tree selected and its availability.
What is a Shade Tree Commission?
It is the mission of the Springfield Township Shade Tree Commission (STC) to promote the beautification of public spaces and encourage good planting and landscaping of private spaces in the township. The STC is also responsible for coordinating the Township's annual Arbor Day event in mid-spring. The Commission meets on the Fourth Thursday of every month at 7pm in the Free Library of Springfield Township. These meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
