Library (1)

If covid has kept you from visiting our library be assured that we still have safety precautions in place.  Masks are optional for patrons, but our staff is opting to continue to wear them. If you’re new to the area we welcome you!

The new Free Library of Springfield Township (built in 2018) is designed for the future. The building has high ceilings and lots of glass.  Bring your laptop and relax in the comfortable seating area or use a public desktop. Read a magazine or newspaper and experience the beautiful surroundings.  Young children and teens can enjoy their own individually designated spaces with colorful chairs, modern lighting and lots of room to spread out. Four public meeting rooms are available to accommodate social groups, committees or programs. Need a quiet space? Ask a staff member and they’ll happily accommodate you.

The Free Library of Springfield Township was founded in 1966 and provides free access to over 60,000 educational and recreational materials to all Springfield Township and Montgomery County residents. For over 50 years we have been dedicated to creating a community center for lifetime learning. The Free Library of Springfield Township is a member of MCLINC, a consortium that enables us to share materials with local libraries.  We are also a charter member of Access Pennsylvania, which allows patrons to use any participating Pennsylvania library.

If you need material from a library outside of MCLINC but within the state of Pennsylvania, we can request it as an inter-library loan and have it delivered to us. Lending terms for inter-library loan items are typically 30 days unless otherwise noted.

In addition to meeting your literary needs, our Library enables residents to visit local museums, use our public computers and Wi-Fi to surf the web, and so much more! Visit our website for additional information.

Summer reading 2022 saw a return to pre-covid times with in-person performers and activities. We celebrated the Oceans of Possibilities you can find in books! Everyone was welcome to join our summer reading program to earn prizes for reading.  We had lots of events and we provided fun for all age groups.

Kids who completed the program were invited to a celebration party with food, games, and raffle prizes. All kinds of reading counted -a physical book or magazine, e-book, or audiobook, or even listening to someone else read to you. The program was separated into 3 groups based on age:

  • Read to Me - for children from birth to age 4
  • Kids Club - for children from pre-K to entering 5th grade
  • Teens - for teens entering 6th through 12th grade

Adults rated and reviewed the books they read and were entered into raffle drawings, held throughout the summer. Each book review counted as one entry.

The library staff has lots of activities for children and programs for adults planned for the upcoming fall and winter months. Friday movie matinees, book clubs, card and mah jongg play, knitting, and drawing classes will continue. AARP Tax prep and Medicare counselling will be available. There will be Storytimes for all age groups and lots of surprises for everyone.

Today’s libraries have evolved into community centers. The Free Library of Springfield Township is the perfect place to meet old friends and make new ones. The staff is always happy to answer your questions or help you find materials. Be sure to check the website (freelibraryofspringfieldtownship.org) or call us to find out what is offered.

The library is an incomparable resource for your community. Come and visit!
