After months of planning and hard work, Mermaid Park is now open to the public! The Mermaid Park Stream & Habitat Restoration Project directly addressed negative environmental impacts by dredging to remove 3,000 cubic yards of sediment from the pond, stabilizing 190 linear feet of streambank to prevent future erosion and sediment accumulation in the pond, and by planting seventy-two native trees, shrubs, and tall grasses that will help filter stormwater runoff and capture additional sediment before stormwater from nearby neighborhoods reaches Mermaid Park's stream and pond. A 0.38 mile walking trail was also constructed in the park to increase accessibility and provide residents with additional recreational amenities.Â
A grand opening ceremony will be planned this Spring. For more information, visit our designated page on the Township website.
