No Stigma/No Shame Day
The Springfield Township Opioid Action Committee (STOAC), supported by the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners, has established April 19th as No Stigma/No Shame Day. This day aims to foster creative ways our community can contribute to reduce the stigma and shame surrounding substance use disorder and mental health conditions.
Many people are affected either directly or indirectly by substance use disorder and other mental health crises. Addiction knows no boundaries, which is why it is imperative to raise awareness and support those who are impacted by the disease. Less stigma around substance use disorder creates a better understanding, more support, and more lives saved.
Upcoming STOAC Events
- STOAC will be hosting a No Stigma/No Shame Day Forum at the Free Library of Springfield Township on April 18th, between 6:30pm - 8:30pm (6:00 meet & greet). They will share scenes from the film The Anonymous People to discuss the stigma of addiction, recovery, and moving the conversation from problems to solutions. This will be followed by a community conversation sharing experiences and awareness.
- STOAC High School and Middle School Recognition will take place April 19th and 20th
- In partnership with Springfield Police Department, STOAC will be hosting Drug Take Back Day on April 22nd from 10am - 2pm at the Springfield Police Station. For more information on this event, visit the designated news article here.
