Asphalt Paving

Latest Project Update - Paving

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin paving the roadway under a safety improvement project at intersections along a 1.9-mile section of Bethlehem Pike in Springfield and Whitemarsh townships, Montgomery County.

PennDOT's contractor for this project, Highway Materials, will begin paving the evening of 6/18 into 6/19. The paving is expected to take approximately six days and paving activities will occur overnight. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution along the roadway and allow extra time when traveling through the work area due to lane restrictions or take alternate routes during the paving process if available. Motorists should not follow directly behind the line painting truck to allow adequate time for the paint to dry.

Questions and concerns about the project can be directed to PennDOT at 610-275-2368.

Bethlehem Pike Safety Improvement Project

This project, which began on March 25, includes safety improvements at intersections along a 1.9-mile section of Bethlehem Pike in Springfield and Whitemarsh Townships, is expected to continue until Fall 2024.

During this project, PennDOT will convert a section of Bethlehem Pike from an undivided four-lane section to a three-lane section with a two-way left turn lane, modify left-turn signal phasing, coordinate arterial signals, install pedestrian countdown timers at select locations, add retroreflective backplates to improve signal visibility, and mill and overlay pavement along the corridor.

The intersections on Bethlehem Pike that will be included in this safety improvement project are Flourtown Shopping Center Driveway, Mill Road, College Avenue, Bysher Avenue, Wissahickon Avenue, Haws Lane, Montgomery Avenue, Sunnybrook Road, and Hillcrest Road.
